In 1996 he met Steve (drummer) the two of whom became the first members of the band who had formed from rival bands, 41 days into summer. Deryck is a very quiet, shy person in real life. But on the stage, he can be described as "energetic, enthusiastic, and down right crazy." Deryck's influences include Elvis Costello, The Beatles, and So-Cal punk bands. He married fellow Canadian rocker Avril Lavigne on July 15th of 2006.
